Public Works

The City of Colton's Department of Public Works consists of four divisions.

The Engineering Department oversees a variety of responsibilities, which includes Public Counter Services, operating a Customer Service phone line (909-370-5065), Plan Checking services, surveying activities, Construction Inspection, Capital Improvement Project Development, Traffic Analysis and Monitoring.

The City of Colton's Street Division is responsible for several programs within the city, including Weed Abatement and Graffiti Abatement.  Physical services provided by the Street Division include concrete-related projects, traffic signs and painting, street sweeping, tree-trimming and removal and asphalt-related projects.  The Street Division maintains a 24-hour hotline for Graffiti Abatement (909-370-5174).

The Parks Division is dedicated to maintaining the City's twelve parks (49.56 acres) to ensure the highest degree possible of community use.  The Parks Division is responsible for the creation and implementation of the Parks and Facilities Master Plan, as well as design and maintenance of median islands.  Furthermore, the Parks Division is responsible for the creation and oversight of Colton “Make a Difference” Days.

The City of Colton's Auto Shop Division is responsible for the maintenance of the City's entire fleet, including vehicles and heavy machinery and equipment.  The Auto Division is also responsible for ensuring the City's fleet meets appropriate state and federal environmental regulations.  As part of the City's ongoing effort to contribute to a cleaner, safer environment for Colton, the City is proud to utilize four Ford F-150 Compressed Natural Gas pickup trucks, purchased through a grant awarded by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Collectively, the Department of Public Works strives to provide the residents of the City of Colton the best, most efficient, and timeliest service possible.
